1882
Rockefeller Family Office Founded
John D. Rockefeller was an American industrialist who founded the Standard Oil Company in 1870. He ran the business until he retired in 1897. Over those years, his wealth soared and he became the world’s richest man and the first American billionaire. He is recognized as a visionary who revolutionized the petroleum industry and he defined the structure of modern philanthropy. In 1882, he established Rockefeller Family and Associates, one of the original family offices, to preserve his family’s assets and to manage his philanthropic endeavors.
1980
Rockefeller and Company became an SEC-registered Investment Adviser
Rockefeller Family and Associates incorporated as Rockefeller & Co., Inc. and became a SEC-registered Investment Adviser to offer investment advisory services to other non-Rockefeller families.
1985
Rockefeller Trust Company became chartered in the state of New York
Rockefeller & Co., Inc., established The Rockefeller Trust Company as a wholly owned subsidiary in New York, offering fiduciary, trust and estate services.
1997
Rockefeller Trust Company became chartered in the state of Delaware
Rockefeller & Co., Inc. established The Rockefeller Trust Company (Delaware) as a wholly owned subsidiary, in order to provide clients with the unique tax and other opportunities offered by the state of Delaware.
2000
Rockit® Command goes live
Rockit® Command, a proprietary, fully integrated information management technology platform developed by Rockefeller and Company, is launched to manage the unique and complex information needs of our ultra high net worth clients. Today, Rockit supports more than 10,000 accounts for clients and their advisors on a daily basis.
2009
Rockefeller Trust Company converts from a New York to a national trust company
Rockefeller Trust Company, N.A., converts from a New York to a national trust company, offering cost-effective and comprehensive trust and estate services in all 50 states.
2010
Rockefeller and Company refines its identity to Rockefeller Financial.
